It was a month of May to remember for Rylan Hue and Logan Edmonstone.
The pair of 2007-born incoming Contacts each heard their names called in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft, as they joined a long list of players with ties to the Contacts organization to become Western Hockey League draft selections.
It all got started with Hue, as the forward was selected in the sixth round, 129th overall by his hometown team — the Saskatoon Blades.

“It's always a kid's dream to play in the WHL, especially in a city close to home like Saskatoon, and after always watching the Blades growing up — it’s pretty surreal,” said Hue.
Hue finished tied for 15th in the SAAHL in goals, humming along at a goal-per-game pace, as he led the Saskatoon Bandits in goals with 31 and finished second in points with 49, ultimately leading to his selection.
“He had a tremendous year, he scored 31 goals and 31 games and I believe he led his provincial champion team in goal scoring in the playoffs too which probably turned a lot of heads,” said Contacts head coach Mark Peterson. “Goal scoring is something that's hard to do. So that's kudos to Rylan for doing that. We hope he can do that as a member of the Contacts organization.”
Hue joins Zach Moore and Morgan Tastad, who were each members of the Contacts 2021-22 roster, as selections of the Blades. Hue noted he received a congratulatory message from Moore following draft night.
“Hopefully he can be a hometown Blade after being a hometown Contact for a couple of years too,” said Peterson.
Edmonstone was soon to follow Hue on draft day, as he was selected in the eighth round, 173rd overall by the Kamloops Blazers.

“It's really exciting. I grew up watching it. I’ve always wanted to play in the WHL. It's the next step,” said Edmonstone.
The former Saskatoon Generals standout was the second selected Saskatchewan-born netminder after sporting a 14-4-1 record in the U15 SAAHL along with a 2.83 goals-against-average and .923 save percentage.
“It was an exciting day for Logan. It’s a day that a lot of players for this year in the 2007 age group have been looking forward to and as exciting as it is, it means that the work starts now and Logan's work ethic is probably one of the main reasons why he was selected,” said Peterson. “He's a gamer. He works. He's in the gym already training. He's a workaholic. He just loves the game — I think that's evident in what the scouts probably saw on him and one of the reasons that they selected him.”
Edmonstone, who admits he was tracking Twitter when he seen his name pop-up as a selection of the Blazers, continues the Kamloops connection to the Contacts organization. The netminder joins Connor Zary, Tye Spencer, Logan Bairos and Luke Korte in recent alumni who have been selected by the Blazers.
Peterson believed Jace Rask was another player who could’ve heard his name called on draft day, after the forward tallied 59 points in 27 games for the Saskatoon Stallions in the U15 SAAHL.
“We feel like that was another kid who probably should’ve went today, but knowing Jace — he’ll use that as fuel to the fire.”
As for the organization as a whole, there’s plenty to be pleased with according to Peterson.
“It's really nice to see two members of organization get selected in this draft. By combining Rylan and Logan plus with our other WHL draft picks, we have a number of Western Hockey League draft picks. What we're trying to do in terms of developing young people and young hockey players and I think it speaks volumes to the commitment and the trust in the Contacts organization. Our job is to develop them as young men but young hockey players as well.”
